A documentary on the performance of Euripides "BACCHAE" presented
by:
ATTIS theater
The theater group ATTIS was created in Greece in 1986 by the
acclaimed Greek theater director Theodoros Terzopoulos.
Their first performance ,a contemporary
interpretation of Euripides' BACCHAE, was presented in Delphi in
1986 and has since been performed, in over 50 venues around the
world.
Theodoros Terzopoulos has a very particular approach in his
directing and training his actors.
This particular performance is based on body language.
He believes that the ancient memories are written in the body and
it is this language that he revives demanding from his actors what
he knows is possible. Using what he calls biodynamic code of
expression, he achieves a very impressive result which also enables
a foreign audience to explore the essence of ancient Greek tragedy.
The documentary "The Journey of Dionysos"
explores Terzopoulos method of work from the very basic training
methods down to the final performance.
The theater experts: Marianne Mac Donald (USA), Francoise Ghiron
Bistagne (France), Umberto Albini (Italy), Suares Awasti (India),
Pierre Petrides (Ethiopia), situate Terzopoulos' approach in the
contemporary theater scene.
The documentary offers the main and most important sequences of
the play as it was presented in several performances around the
world.
